Entry Requirements To Travel To Europe

ETIAS is the acronym for Travel Information and Authorization System. After the terrorist attacks in different cities in Europe, the European Union considered it necessary to increase security. The ETIAS program has been created with the aim of improving the security of the region, both for residents and visitors.

The European Council ensures that this new border and migration policy will increase security and help protect Europe from any possible future threats. ETIAS seeks to control the mobility and migration of foreign visitors.

The ETIAS system proposal suggests that initially there will be 60 countries eligible to submit the ETIAS permit application online. The ETIAS travel authorization is a travel permit for those traveling for business or tourism and does not replace student or work visas. Nationals of third countries who wish to live, study, work or stay in Europe for more than 90 consecutive days, will have to apply for another type of visa.

Are expected to eligible ETIAS countries, including 15 Latin American countries, requesting exemption from European visa in late 2022. Applicants must meet the requirements ETIAS to obtain a travel permit. Among these requirements to successfully obtain ETIAS is the obligation for visitors to possess a passport from one of the eligible countries.

Requirements For The ETIAS European Visa Exemption

The ETIAS authorization requirements are essential to complete the application process. ETIAS is a system similar to other travel authorization programs such as the ESTA for the United States or the eTA for Canada.

For successful registration, the traveler needs to meet the ETIAS requirements before applying for the permit online. It is essential that those wishing to travel to Europe have the necessary documentation to complete a travel authorization application. Applicants must be citizens of the countries eligible to obtain ETIAS.

Any applicant who meets the following requirements for the ETIAS visa exemption can apply for a travel authorization permit to Europe:

  • A passport with a minimum validity of 3 months from the date of arrival in Europe.
  • A debit or credit card to pay for the ETIAS application.
  • An email address to receive the ETIAS approval document.

Provide the following biographical information:

  • Names- Surname or family name Maiden name (if applicable), Usual name (s)
  • Birthdate
  • Place of birth
  • Country of birth
  • Sex
  • Nationality

During the application process, the ETIAS system will require the traveler to include:

  • Date of issue and expiration
  • Other necessary information included in the passport (if applicable)

Among other ETIAS requirements, travelers wishing to visit Europe need to provide their contact information:

  • Current address
  • Email address
  • Phone number

Additional applicant information:

  • European state you will visit first
  • Educational level and current employment

During the ETIAS registration process the applicant will be asked to answer a series of questions about their criminal record along with other questions related to the security of the Schengen Zone.

For family members of EU citizens or third-country nationals who benefit from free movement without a residence card:

Provide the identity and details of the family relationship between the applicant and EU citizens or third country nationals. If the traveler meets all the ETIAS requirements and is a citizen of one of the eligible countries, it will take an average of 10-20 minutes to apply for the ETIAS permit online.

The applicant must always have a valid passport (minimum three months of validity). No additional documentation will be required unless specifically requested by the member state in which the application is made. The ETIAS system will accept requests made by third parties on behalf of an applicant. The traveler’s data will be necessary.
